Faye Quandelacy
Zuni Corn Maidens, as we have come to know them, are
a result of the art of Faye Quandelacy.
Faye Quandelacy is one of the few Zuni carvers to have had formal
art training, which she received in Santa Fe.
When she returned to Zuni after art school, she began
her carving and presented us all
these beautiful maidens.
She immediately helped her sister Sandra carve in this style.
They work side by side.
Sandra and Faye carve their
Corn Maidens in stone,
Fossil Ivory, and Shell. Each is an individual
work of art.
Over time, these two talented and generous artists,
shared their ideas and taught nephew Stuart
who then taught friend
Daniel Chattin.
Friend and neighbor Rhoda Quam also learned to carve
these beautiful maidens and so grew this
Zuni Corn Maiden style.
